General Ware resigned and retired from the military on May 1, 2003. His 41-year military career includes: four years of active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps; seven years in the U. S. Army and thirty years in the California Army National Guard. Ware's last assignment was as Chief Assistant Adjutant for the California National Guard.

General Ware's military career began in October 1959 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After returning to civilian life in 1963, he worked as a Machinist and as a San Diego Police Offi cer. In 1966, Ezell enlisted in the United States Army where he attended the U. S. Army Aviation School. Upon completion of flight school, Ezell was commissioned as a pilot and aviation Warrant Officer. In 1969, after serving one year in Republic of Vietnam as a Combat Helicopter Gunship Pilot, Ezell received a combat commission to the rank of First Lieutenant.

Ware's civilian and military education include a Bachelor of Arts degree from Californian State University - Sacramento, California; Master of Science degree from Troy State University - Montgomery, Alabama; graduate of the San Diego Police Academy; Graduate of the U.S. Army Aviation Pilot School; Graduate of the Infantry Officer's Basic and Advance Course; Graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; Graduate of the Department of Defense (DOD) Race Relations Institute; Graduate of the U.S. Air Force War College with honors; Graduate of the U.S. Army's Pre-Command Course with honors; and numerous other schools and courses.

General Ware's awards include: the Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Commendation Medal with ìVî device; Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal with 1960 Device; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea); Army Campaign Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters; Humanitarian Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon; U.S. Army Pilot Wings; National Guard Recruiting Badge; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 2 Hourglass Devices; National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star Device; Order of California; and numerous federal and state awards, and resolutions.

Ware's overseas assignments and military travels include: Union of South Africa; Sierra Leone; Liberia; Senegal; Okinawa; Japan; Germany; Korea; Republic of Vietnam; Thailand; Philippines; Malaysia; Denmark; Mexico; Austria; and Taiwan. His signifi cant affi liations include: Life Member-Veterans of Foreign Wars; Life Member-Vietnam Veteran Association; Life Member-United States Marine Corps League; Life Member-Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association; Life Member-U.S. Army Black Aviation Association; Member-Veterans of the Vietnam War, Inc. and Member -The Veterans Coalition. He serves on the board of the Vietnam Veterans Assistant Fund.

Born in Mobile, Alabama Ware grew up in Magee, Mississippi and McAlester, Oklahoma. He is currently President of Ezell Ware, & Associates. His memoir, BY DUTY BOUND: Survival and Redemption In a Time Of War, was released in March 2005. He is currently writing a second book entitled The Courage To Be Great - A Personal Choice.
