Letter from the
President
I am Keith King, President of VVAF, and I want to thank all of you for your support of our organization. As you may remember from reading last year’s Annual Report, long time VVAF President Joseph Randy “Doc” Barnes passed away on December 2, 2006. I was the Vice President and have since been elected as President for the next couple of years. I am a Vietnam vet and have served in many VVA local, state and national positions since 1980.
I am especially pleased and proud to be associated with the Vietnam Veterans Assistance Fund and look forward to an exciting future. As you will see, VVAF is in the process of changing its name to the Veterans Support Foundation (VSF). The purpose of the name change is to acknowledge our expanding role in servicing ALL veterans. We have always serviced veterans other than Vietnam veterans and we must be prepared to continue, thus the name change. We invite you, our supporters, to join us through this change.
We have increased our fundraising efforts over the past year to allow us to meet the increased financial needs in support of veterans and veteran’s issues. We partnered with Vietnam Veterans of America in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. To that end we produced a book, “The Wall”, a 25th Anniversary Commemorative about the Vietnam Memorial from inception to current.
We are redoing the VVAF web site to include our new name and an updated picture of who we are and what we do. In partnership with the Elks, we have initiated the VVAF Coin Can Program – cans in your local shops and businesses to collect money to support our programs.
We have had a year of dramatic changes and we look forward to even more exciting years in the future.
Keith King
